Cordless phone with VOIP

Although we pay for VM landline as part of package, we dont really use it. About a year ago engineer came to sort an issue out and transferred our phone to Voip, so we have an adapter in the wifi hub. For the last few months our v basic phone was making a humming noise and as the hub is placed by our tv we pulled the phone out, so no calls come in to us.

Due to family issues we cant rely solely on our mobiles for emergency family incoming calls and we do not like to have our mobiles on whilst sleeping.

It means we now have to sort the vm landline.

So, my Q is this -

If we buy a corded phone and a 2nd cordless one, and plug the corded one into the hub, will the 2nd cordless one work upstairs in the bedroom?

And are there certain types of phones i need to consider or is it just a case of buying a set of two?

Sorry, the post is long winded but any help would be appreciated.

Regards
