I have successfully installed my broadband but am struggling with the home phone. I have followed the instructions but I have a crackly line and when I dial 174 to find my number I am told oops. How to I fix this please

Can you confirm if you get a dial tone please?
Do you notice the crackly line when you first pick up the handset or is it after a while when you're on a call?
Apart from being crackly, are you able to make/receive calls?
Can you call your landline from a mobile number?
Sorry for so many questions, I'd just like to understand what's happening fully.
Yes I get a dial tone
The crackling is on trying to dial

Are you able to test another handset to see if that changes anything?
Can you also take the adaptor out and make sure its free of any dust etc and then put it back in and make sure it's all snug?
