Cannot call one particular Talk Talk number from Virgin Media Phones

I have a very puzzling fault which appeared for the first time last Thursday 1 October. Our phone stopped being able to call one particular number (which happens to be that of my wife's vulnerable 90+ aged parents who she usually calls twice a day and talks to for a long time as virtually their only social contact - we pay for Talk More Anytime). Our phone can receive calls from this number and others and can make calls to other numbers, including to the reception desk of the building in which they live, just as it always has.
When she calls this number she just gets total silence until the phone just gives up on trying to connect to anything. We have tried prefixing the calls with 141 and with 1470 in case of blocking and tried it with and without international and exchange prefixes (no change). We have verified ourselves there is nothing wrong with their phone or line (they can make calls to us and other numbers and receive calls from other numbers than ours with both their handset and a substitute) - and have had Talk Talk send an engineer to verify this as well. He has also verified with Talk Talk that there is no blocking applied to the line of any sort.
The very weird thing is that this fault has affected both of our Virgin Media mobile phones as well from the same date - they too cannot connect to this number (absolute silence when we try, just like the land line) but can receive calls from it and make calls to any other number we have tried.
We have a temporary work round with a 1p mobile sim, which works fine to make calls to this number (my wife phones them with this and then they call back to our landline from theirs) but this means the money we are spending on unlimited calls with Virgin Media on the landline and 2 mobile phones is being wasted.
It appears to be a recent problem (software or routing) affecting only Virgin Media phones (both landline and mobile) or some deliberate or accidental blocking applied through Virgin Media to our account specifically.
Can anyone shed any light on this or have a solution before we decide we need to change provider permanently to get round it? Thanks and sorry for the length of this post.

Just for an update to anyone with a similar issue. Although we had no response from Virgin Media or anyone else in the community, this fault disappeared after a few weeks from both our mobile and landline phones - just as mysteriously as it first appeared. We can only conclude it was due to some routing changes in the network/exchange.
