Can you please switch off yours and see how that goes

I did as you suggested and Virgin voicemail is working, but my landline phone still only rang ONCE and I would not know that I had missed a call or got a message!!!!!

Nevertheless I experimented with my own 'brand new answerphone' call settings. I changed the number of rings from the auto setting (5) to my selected choice of six. Wunderbar it's now working perfectly, I can now recieve calls as well, provided I pick it up before six rings. Incidently the minimum setting is TWO, so the fault was never with my old or new answerphone. 

So Gareth, we got there in the end, thankyou.

Now It's just a question of compensation?

At last we have managed to get this issue resolved 

A fault from both sides I guess

I'm glad its all sorted now for you 

The only negative side to a cordless phone is , when a call is received the 1st 2 rings go to the base unit. Then it register with the handset so it should have been 8 rings in total if it was a standard corded handset.

Sadly we are unable to offer compensation bit I can look a credit for a fault

OK, I acknowledge what you say and a 'credit for a fault' would maybe satisfy my sense of fairplay.

I look forward to hearing from Virgin media regarding same.
