Hub is upstairs, phone point is downstairs. Hub is in modem mode.
Simple question first: Can I defer the downgrade to digital phone?
If not... why not? I would like it deferred to the end of my contract.
When an engineer is sent to wire from one awkward placement of the hub, to the nearly impossible to access location of the phone, how will it be cabled - inside or outside? Hidden or visible cabling? Are they prepared to move furniture to access things - probable 2 person job?

The home phone switchover cannot be deferred unfortunately. As part of an area migration, all the lines will be switched over on a specified date.
Have you received correspondence confirming the migration date?
As for your additional questions, the engineer would be able to answer these before carrying out the necessary work.
