Are you a new customer trying to identify your new landline number? If so, you should be able to see that in the billing section of 'My Virgin Media'. Alternatively, ring your mobile from your landline and get the caller ID (no need to pick up to avoid a call charge).

In all new VM installations the landline phone is connected to the TEL1 socket on the VM hub (referred to as a '21st century voice - 21CV' connection). Old landline connections via a wall socket are also in the process of being switched over by VM to 21CV. Sometimes this is done as an alternative to fixing a fault on an existing line.

Hi @davedicko thanks for your post here in the Community.

I believe the number you're referring to is 174 - if you can dial this, the handset should ring again and read out to you your landline number.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you need any further assistance!

Many thanks

Thanks 🙏 for your reply, even though I have ticked the’email me when someone replies’ option,I don’t get an email

Thanks 🙏 for the info, with the main telephone plugged into the modem in a different room,i don’t always hear it especially if I am in the bedroom where the ringtone is turned off (so it doesn’t disturb our sleep),I wanted to check the line was working at the socket before being plugged into the modem so I could move it back, needless to say i don’t like change. Thanks 🙏 for your help…. Dave 🤓

If you can make calls from your landline phone when the phone is plugged into TEL1 on the VM hub, then you have already been swapped to a 21CV connection with VM.

Under those circumstances, your former telephone extension sockets around the home would normally no longer work, unless a VM tech has taken measures to link those previous extension sockets to the phone socket on the VM hub.

This normally has to be requested but should be free at time of switchover. If you want that doing later down the line there may be a £25 charge to do that.

If you do not want to be disturbed by the phone at night, have a look in your phone manual for a 'do not disturb' feature/setting. Some phones (such as from BT and Panasonic) allow you to set times of day when the phone remains silent (instead going to answering machine for incoming calls). Some also allow callers who are logged in the phone contacts list as 'VIP' callers (terminology varies between manufacturers) to break through the do not disturb feature (e.g. to receive urgent calls from family/friends etc. during the night)

Thanks 🙏…Dave

Hi davedicko, thanks for your posts and replies.

We are glad to see our forum members have offered support and useful info in regard to your issues faced.
If you have switched to landline via fibre as goslow advised above your landline would work through the hub and any wall sockets would be disabled as copper lines have been removed.

Please, let us know if you need our engineers to help out with any cabling work and ensure you have the correct set up for your landline?
Tell how you get on and if you need more help or advice from us, happy to assist.
