Thanks for taking the time to post on the forums in regards to your new handset and issues connecting it to your Hub, we appreciate the confusion this can cause and you raising it via the forums. Welcome to the community.
Can you confirm if the landline has been set up to work via the Hub or a wall socket? If it is via the Hub you will need to connect the base unit to the hub using the adapter and TEL 1 port.
