I currently have 100 Down & 10 upload speed. I play a lot of ranked league of legends, however I am losing my mind throughout the games because when someone wants to download something in the house I have to pay the price with very high ping around 200-300 ms.
If anyone knows a fix where I can game and someone download at the same time without effecting my connection, PLEASE let me know!
Whilst "loaded latency" is higher than on a lightly utilised connection, it shouldn't normally affect your ping to the tune of a third of second. I just fired up a few multi-GB downloads and ran some speed and latency tests on another device whilst the download was running, and my loaded latency (even over wifi) was 23ms, and with two other people in the house streaming movies. I suggest you set up a BQM to see if there's a bit more going on with latency than just your household activity.
If it does turn out to be the case that other people downloading stuff are swamping the connection (despite my comment above), the answer is to buy a router or mesh system that has a QoS capability, and enable that for your gaming device. But don't spend money yet - if the BQM indicates a problem between your hub and VM's network gear, buying the finest wifi equipment on earth won't help.

Thanks for the reply I can confirm whenever someone is downloading something (a game) the internet will swamp to that download and literally use all the internet more or less leaving me with say 300ms, even tho I have an ethernet cable in 😞
Is there any way I can stop downloads being an internet sucker and have it like managed? surely it shouldn’t suck the life out of the box where others will have to suffer
