Unusable Connection with Extreme Latency in Evenings

Hello all!

For the past few evenings, from 6pm onwards the internet becomes unusable for anything requiring a solid latency (gaming, video calls, etc.). See graphs below:

cd9c7880ae4b4e57d07b2f7d06ed12e9b106e7d4-15-11-2021

364bebce6d7353d70daef8db1160ce8d994b647f-08-11-2021

All equipment is wired via ethernet, and I have tried restarting/resetting the hub with no luck. This problem seems to have been getting steadily worse over the past few weeks, but has recently become unusable.

Any thoughts? Oversubscription?

Re: Unusable Connection with Extreme Latency in Evenings

Check that the BQM is tracking your current IP, but looks like a combination of both bad noise, although hub status data you posted isn't showing the evidence, and over-utilisation.

The spikes through the small hours of the morning are almost certain some form of noise fault, and those should be resolvable.  The peak time slow down, that's over-utilisation, and the link above explains your options, and this link explains how VM cause and then deal with the problem.

Very occasionally there's a fault that creates a similar BQM to over-utilisation but does not have the same underlying cause of a congested network, and in that case, if it can be found then it can be fixed.  But the odds on this are low - about the same as you encountering a leprechaun riding a unicorn across a meadow of four leafed clover to hand you a winning national lottery ticket and a next-day GP appointment.

Re: Unusable Connection with Extreme Latency in Evenings

Hi TOGAPower,

Thank you for your post. I'm very sorry to hear about the issue you're having with your broadband service.

I have been able to locate your account and have taken a look at your levels and everything seems to be checking out as okay.

Can you confirm if you're continuing to have issues with this?

^Martin
