Stuttering on Geforce Now/Xbox game pass

Hello,

I am seeing stuttering occur with game streaming services (and also smart speakers playing music) where everything will run sorry smooth but every few minutes the game stream will become very slow or pixelated, like there connection dropped for a few seconds. On the smart speakers it becomes very stuttery. Things will return to normal until the next time.

To save time, here are my stats:

Re: Stuttering on Geforce Now/Xbox game pass

What Hub are you using?  Are you connecting via WiFi or Ethernet?

Your stats and BQM look fine, so the issue is elsewhere.

Re: Stuttering on Geforce Now/Xbox game pass

Currently on Hub 3 with a 200mb connection.

Unfortunately I do not have the means to test the wired connection with the streaming services as my laptop does not have an Ethernet port (MacBook) but I can confirm the issues arise on both 2ghz and 5ghz bands. Even if the laptop sits next to the router.

Is there any software that I could run to capture wireless dips?

I have used a wifi analyser app on my phone which confirms they is no nearby routers using the same channels across both bands.

Thanks!

I would get an ethernet adaptor for your Macbook as VM do not guarantee wifi performance and will ask for speed tests to be done wired directly to the Hub with a Cat 6a cable.

However, you have already done a wifi scan, so that's good.  Have you tried to disable all the "Smart Optimisations" within the wifi settings on the Hub, as this may be causing your wifi to bounce between bands and channels.?  It's best to lock these options manually to your wifi devices where possible.

You could also try splitting the SSID for more control;

• Access your Hub by navigating to 192.168.0.1
• Login with the default login info (on base of Hub) unless you've already updated it.
• Go to Advanced Settings > Wireless > Security
• Under Wireless Frequency 2.4GHz change the Wifi Network Name (SSID), suggest append _2 to the end.
• Repeat for the Wireless Frequency 5GHz, suggest append _5 to the end and click on Apply changes
• Try to avoid spaces and periods in the SSID names as they can cause issues with certain devices.

Re: Stuttering on Geforce Now/Xbox game pass

Thanks for the suggestions! I had already split out the name due to wireless issues about a year ago (which resolved the issues at the time) and can confirm the optimization option is disabled.

I'll try to get my hands on an adapter for the MacBook to see how I get on there. If it is fine in that case, and it seems to be the wireless, I'll be a bit stumped on what to try next!

Re: Stuttering on Geforce Now/Xbox game pass

You could try a full factory reset, however this will loose all your custom settings, so will need setup again afterwards. See below;

Try a 60 second pinhole reset as below;
Remove any ethernet cables from the Hub and hold the pinhole reset switch for 60 seconds. Do NOT reboot the Hub, just let it do it's thing. Note you will need the passwords from the bottom of the Hub afterwards, so make sure they are legible.

The important part is do NOT reboot, just let the Hub initialise itself,  This may take up to 10 or so minutes to finish.

Re: Stuttering on Geforce Now/Xbox game pass

I feel silly.

As I was gearing up for the big reset, I noticed the 5ghz band was set to auto change channels. Seems more stable since turning that off!

Thanks so much for the help.

Hi @Adlam

Great to hear all is sorted for you! Sometimes it's just the simplest of things we overlook that can fix the issue, good job you spotted it before you did a big reset! Much time saved.

@Adduxi Thank you very much for assisting. 🙂
