Poor Latency Variation and Dropped Packets

I have been experiencing significant latency spikes (similar to many others recently) and was wondering if somebody could please take a look for me 🙂

Re: Poor Latency Variation and Dropped Packets

Hi @TOGAPower

Welcome to the forum page and thanks for posting this on here.

Sorry to hear you're having some latency issues but we can certainly look into getting this sorted for you.

Just some questions,

How is your wired devices looking? Do you get these drop outs on wired connections at all?

Do you also experience this on all devices or is just some?

Have you carried out any checks at all? I know this does sound very basic, but have you carried out a reboot or a pin hole reset of the hub?

Does it make a difference at all?

Please do let me know 🙂

Thanks

Re: Poor Latency Variation and Dropped Packets

Hi Sasha!

The dropouts are occuring while connected via ethernet to the router. It is consistent across devices, and leads to periodic dropouts and lag spikes while gaming or streaming video throughout the day. I have tried a hub reboot/reset, with no improvements 😞 Do all of the power levels look normal and correct? It has been this way since it was installed last month, so I dont believe that it is something that has developed, but rather has been this way throughout.

Re: Poor Latency Variation and Dropped Packets

Power levels are all within limits, though the upstream power is bouncing along very close to the lower values permitted (34-49 dBmV in my book), and the downstream data is showing a few post-RS (uncorrected) errors breaking through

There's also something well odd about your BQM - look at the image you first posted, and then the link below.  At first glance they're very similar, but on closer examination they are different days (and it seems the link is "live").  Now look at 2am to 4am.  Near enough identical.  I can't say what is causing that, but it's extremely odd, which may or may not help.

Re: Poor Latency Variation and Dropped Packets

I'm in exactly the same boat mate.

The stats on my router also look good but the latency jumps persist.

You are not in the reading area are you?

Re: Poor Latency Variation and Dropped Packets

I certainly am! My account has an area reference of 31 (in Thatcham/Newbury, which I assume is close enough to Reading to have a similar impact?)

For what it is worth, today the latency seemed to be worse:

Re: Poor Latency Variation and Dropped Packets

Yes, that is close to me, about 10 miles in a straight line.

I wonder if the two are related as they look very similar.

I have had no luck getting mine fixed, this has been going on for months. I thought it was lockdown related stress on the network, but as we are coming out of lockdown it has not improved.

Re: Poor Latency Variation and Dropped Packets

Good Morning TOGAPower,

Thanks for your post

I've been able to book an engineer to look into this for you - there are currently no outages or network congestion issues being advised in the local area.

Please log into your self-care account to see when the visit is due to take place an feel free to re-arrange this if you wish

Kindest regards,
