Ping Spikes @ 2000+

Hello

Is there anyone that can give me any advice or help with my problem. For some months now i have been having problems with my ping.

I play a particular game that has a ping limit on the server i play on. My average ping is around 25 to 35ms but i keep getting spikes of up to and over 2000ms and then kicked from the game server. If i try to refresh a web page as this happens it will hang for a second or two before loading and if i am streaming a movie it will sometimes freeze and buffer.

I rang virgin and explained this to a very helpful gentleman who quickly sent me a new hub out saying it sounded like a fault with the equipment. He said if its still doing it when you have the new Hub ring back and we will send a engineer out as the problem is probably outside of my property. New hub came, plunged in and set up.. Same problem.

So i rang Virgin back to be told i need a booster and that will be another £3 a month on my bill and if i still want a engineer to come out i will be charged for the call out.  Why should i pay an extra £3 a month for a stable connection ?  Don't really want to ring them again as the lady i spoke to the second time was very rude and basically said if i don't take the booster there is nothing more she can do and if i want to leave that's up to me. 11 years i have been with virgin at my current address and never had this sort of problem before. And this issue is affecting all the PCs in my house not just mine.

Any help and advice would be very appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Ping Spikes @ 2000+

Firstly set up a BQM at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal coming into the property, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing.

Post a link to your BQM on here.

then

Type 192.168.0.1 into your browser URL bar and press enter.  When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’. Copy and paste the contents of each tab onto here, a Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.

Re: Ping Spikes @ 2000+

Looks to me like your downstream power levels are too high.  Suggest you wait for the forum staff to get round to your post and advise what the issue is.

Re: Ping Spikes @ 2000+

Don't suppose you could have a look at my thread since I think I have similar issues Twistedv8 has.
