Latency making calls and games awful

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality/share/cbbb25ac61f4612b49f2c64d398c20ceb6a758c2-23-12-2020

hey everyone. I set up a BQM. I’m getting massive ping spikes that make multiplayer games like fall guys unplayable as I keep getting kicked. My postcode is EH11 3HD. I’m on WiFi but when I tried it on LAN I had similar issues..

Re: Latency making calls and games awful

BQM has a few spikes that might be noise-related, but isn't showing anything exceptional.  You could try posting your hub's status data for Downstream, Upstream, Network log (all as text, not screenshots) and we can take a look for any obvious issues.

I have a router connected to my virgin router to extend the network upstairs through a powerline. that said, I still have ping issues on both networks, just significantly worse with the upstairs one.

Re: Latency making calls and games awful

To add. I've done a restart and it fixes the issue for a day or so but then it happens again the day after. I get a great ping but I can't keep restarting my router every day to fix the issue.

scratch that... still broken.

There might be your problem....do you have the Hub 3 in router mode, and a separate router connected to it that is also in router mode?

Re: Latency making calls and games awful

It's a TP-link router acting as a WAP. After the reset it's been better but not great.

And you're totally sure it's been configured in access point mode?

Re: Latency making calls and games awful

Fair enough (you'll have to bear with me, I've made enough "simple mistakes" that other people have delighted in pointing out in my time).

At the moment...BQM isn't perfect, but not horrendous (check it is monitoring your current IP address, they do change), downstream power is OK, downstream SNR is excellent, network log looks good.  I'm not entirely happy with downstream errors - looks like they're building, and there's uncorrected errors breaking through on 15 & 16.  Let it all run for another 24 hours with no restarts, and repost the full downstream data (and Upstream, please) before doing any restart.

I can't promise I'll be around then to take a look, but either I'll come back to it in a couple of days, or one of the other enthusiasts here will pick it up.

Re: Latency making calls and games awful

Cheers mate, any help is good, i just got a gaming PC again so trying to get stuck in with FS2020, fallguys and CS but they all have issues with random drop outs for 3 or 4 seconds.

BQM was set up a couple days ago, checked and it's the right IP for the BQM, the red lines that are there now are the restart after I kept getting random ping spikes while playing CS:GO. i'll report back tomorrow tomorrow at this time! cheers
