Latency fluctuation issues (BR2)

I've got the same problem that a lot of other people seem to be having at the moment to do with wild ping fluctuations which render gaming impossible. It only seems to flatten out late at night after 10pm (at the earliest). It is also having a negative effect on my working from home.

This may end up being the final straw as I have had a choppy history with VM.

Below are the router status readings.. is there anything immediately obvious?

Re: Latency fluctuation issues (BR2)

Your signal is too high, you need a tech to lower your signal, hopefully this can be done without entering the property

Re: Latency fluctuation issues (BR2)

I'm not getting any joy with calling up.

I'm running a thinkbroadband monitor and it doesnt really show any issue compared to some of the horror shows some people posted here.

The levels on my line, is that something that can be done without an engineer coming out?

I'll feel like I'm just going to have to ride this out and leave VM when this has calmed down and things are somewhat back to normal.

It's frustrating though as gaming is a huge part of why I have this internet and it's been completely taken away from me...and the price keeps creeping up!

Re: Latency fluctuation issues (BR2)

Can anyone from VM please respond to a couple of questions I have :

  1. I've read there is supposedly a fault in my area (BR postcode, area reference 20). I also seen various dates bandied about for resolution. Is there a actual date this is due to happen?
  2. I've been told my power levels are too high (see router data below). I assume this is fixed using an attenuator. I'm aware that resources may be thinner on the ground at the moment so how can I get the right one and self install?

I have also included my BQM which doesn't look nearly as bad as others people but it is still impossible to game online anytime before 10/11pm each day and I have had numerous work conference calls / daily tasks interupted because of it

Re: Latency fluctuation issues (BR2)

Your BQM looks quite a lot cleaner than mine does! It wouldn't really indicate any problems for most of the day.

But yes, your power levels are quite high - if they can't turn down the power on the cab side, you'll want a 10dB attenuator on your cable to bring things to within spec.

Re: Latency fluctuation issues (BR2)

yea, I feel bad complaining when some peoples BQM's are way way crazier but even looking like this it's rubbish for gaming 😭

Would any attenuator do or does it have to be a certain spec/brand?

Re: Latency fluctuation issues (BR2)

Do you have the right IP for your BQM?

Re: Latency fluctuation issues (BR2)

huh...I've just gone into BQM and I think my IP changed at some point because the one I posted has a different IP to my current one but it was definitely mine at one point.. I haven't reset the router or anything.

I'm guessing VM did something?

I've set up a new one
