Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

Thanks for responding.

It's running poorly as it has been for the last couple of weeks, during normal day hours.

I have my router set to reboot every Sunday if you're asking me to try that.

Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

Hi Cedira,

Thanks for coming back to us. I'm really sorry for the broadband issues. I can see there is a congestion issue affecting the service. F008104959 is your reference. The estimated fix date is the 15th July 2020.

Kind regards,

Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

Ticket F007908422 fixing dates:

 02/04/2020, 14/05/2020, 27/05/2020 then 01/07/2020.

Another fixing date has gone and nothing was done.

I'm glad that on 7th I'll have my contract terminated. I've got another provider already with stable internet and no latency spikes.

I'd encourage everyone to do the same, my contract was terminated with no early disconnection fee. The very fair attitude from VM team.

Thank you VM community team, I know this is a tough job and in the end, it's not up to you the decision to fix this issue or not.

Best luck to everyone.

Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

I moved to FTTC for gaming and everything is so much more responsive and ping is lower in every game due to routing. I have both virgin for downloading and BT for gaming.

Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

Thats how I have my home setup too.

I have a BT connection for me to game on and the netflix users/downloaders in the house use VM.

Ping comparison

EUW LoL:  Virgin anywhere between 50 and 200 at all times of the day

EUW LoL: BT - 27-30ms at all times of the day on an almost 1 mile line.

WoW EU - Virgin gives me anything between 40 and 80 at all times.

WoW EU: BT gives me 21 - 24 ms at all times of the day.

Virgin Media is not an ISP designed for Gamers, they can boast having some of the fastest widely available broadband in the country  but they don't really accomodate one of the largest reasons people go online... to game.

Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

@williambonomo

I feel like the Sales teams the reason areas get so over subscribed.

BT would never let cabinets accept orders unless capacity is available.

I am of the opinion that Virgin knows too well that an area has no capacity but still push sales.

Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

Glad that you guys can pay two internets, that's not my case.

This is pointless for me to be honest, I leave only with my wife. 105Mb with a decent latency is more than enough for us.

I used to game with Virgin since October 2019 and that never was an issue. Playing CS-GO and CoD warzone was always fine until the lockdown. This is not about the network model but how prepared they are for peak usage and how keen they are to expand capacity in a case like this.

Following other guys here on the community made it clear for me that they will push the "fixing" date until the lockdown has gone.

Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

Yes, that's true. Obviously they know about oversubscription.

The maximum speed that I found in my are from other ISPs was 72 down / 20 upload (the one I've got now). Weirdly virgin offers up to 500Mb in my area, which explains the business model, they offer as much speed as they can regardless of quality/stability.

Re: Latency Horrible - Gaming and RDP impossible

I had the same issues a few years ago at my old residence.

The fix date kept getting pushed back.

I left them the day after my contract expired.
