Hub wont let people access my server

Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up my own games on Wreckfest and Grip: Combat Racing using Steam, but I'm having trouble getting anywhere. I am using a virgin media hub 3.0

I've forwarded the correct ports and given myself a static IP address as well. I've also tried turning my firewalls off on my computer (AVG, Windows Firewall).

It worked with great ease at my parents home (BT home hub) but I am struggling at mine.

Is there any thing else on the hub I need to change?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks and Happy New Year! (Hairy New Ear!)

Re: Hub wont let people access my server

Hello

When you setup the port forwarding did you enter the ports in number order that is lowest first etc, is the firewall turned on, on the hub, as it needs to be on for the port forwarding to work.

You can check if the port is open at https://canyouseeme.org/

Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply,
I believe I have done the ports correctly (please see screenshot) and I also have the firewall on (please see screenshot)

I tried the site you directed me to, but it won't let me change the ip address on there.

Any further thoughts please?

Thanks again,
Rosie

Images have to be approved by moderators before being visible to all and also a bug in the current forum code means it can take up to an hour after approval before they show.

Re: Hub wont let people access my server

Hello

You cannot change the IP as that is your external IP address thats what your friends would connect too.

Looking at your forwarding rules they are not in order, you have some lower ones listed after the higher ones.

Re: Hub wont let people access my server

Okay, thank you.
The port check tool  shows no difference, error connection timed out.

I've now put them in order, aside from the one labelled 'automatically added by upnp' as i can't get this to change.

Someone suggested connecting an ethernet cable to my laptop and router, would  this make any difference?

I am right in that I can have a static IP with Virgin if I set it up myself yes?

many thanks

Rosie

Re: Hub wont let people access my server

Hello

On consumer line there is no static external IP address are available all IP's on a consumer line are dynamic but will change rarely. You server that you are running will need a static IP address in your internal range

Re: Hub wont let people access my server

You should be able to do what you want with the Virgin Hub, but you may find using your own router with the Hub in Modem mode gives you more versatility.

Also using a dynamic dns forwarding service might be a better way of providing a link to your server for the times when your ip does change.

Re: Hub wont let people access my server

So to make this all simpler, would it simply be better to leave Virgin and find another service provider (ie BT) that let me do easily what I need to do, rather than this lot of extra stuff?
