I'm trying to connect to a fan server for a game on PS3. In order to do so I need to set my DNS to 22.214.171.124. It's been working fine for the past couple of weeks. I tried to sign in to this morning and it appears to have been blocked by Virgin Media. I came to this conclusion because I swapped my PS3 over to my Vodaphone internet and it works perfectly. I've tried to call the support line multiple times but they have no idea what I'm talking about. Can someone please confirm if Virgin Media are in the habit of blocking DNS servers and if so, how do I resolve this?
What's the server url you are trying to connect to?
Can you run a tracert to that url
When connected to Virgin Media's DNS servers When connected to the third party DNS servers
Virgin Media don't intentionally block DNS lookups except in cases of Court orders and notifications of dodgy sites on the IWF
However if a URL is marked as suspicious the DNS may be redirected via VMS WebSafe Proxy. This has been known to cause issues in certain situations. The test will help us determine if there is any redirection taking place.
Alternatively log in to my.virginmedia.com with your main account and try turning off Virus Safe and/or Child Safe to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks to those that replied/ran tests. Unfortunately to join this custom server on PS3 the only way to do so is by manually setting the DNS. However, the problem has alleviated itself and I'm back on Yuvi's server on Demon's Souls. Come join me! 😁
