Cannot connect to my game....

Hello,

I play a game where friends any myself rent a server space, and connect via an ip address withing the gaming panel.  Upon trying to connect on my new PC. I am encountering an error.

I have ran a traceroute and the following occurs:

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19042.685]

C:\windows\system32>tracert 51.178.20.115

Can anyone help me, as at the minute I am not happy with my 1GB line from VIRGIN. Where I am getting at most 100gb via this booster to my main PC, and 300GB direct from their hub4.  Starting to regret my decision to move away from sky, at least the 70gb line from them didnt drop constant and have huge PING issues, which as you know, as a gamer is not a good thing....

Traceroute looks fine - you’re reaching the destination and have a ~40ms ping time to it - which is in line with what you’d expect between UK and Europe

100mb over a booster is actually pretty good performance.

300mb when connected directly to the hub... is that wired or wireless?

do you experience any of these issues when you’re directly connected to the hub with a CAT5e/CAT6 cable?

gonna need some more infomation about what hte actual issue is here - i.e. What’s the error you’re getting from the game when you try to connect?

Re: Cannot connect to my game....

Looking at the Traceroute Results - You expect to see a lot of Timed Outs especially as a lot of servers your traffic passes through don't always say their details. However, at Hop 11 it is already outside the Virgin Media network and Hop 16 it has reached the Destination Server.

Did you get an Error message when trying to connect? As its, a new PC is it set up to access the game through your Firewall as sometimes as you know with some games you need to Port Forward or play around with settings to get a better set up.

Re: Cannot connect to my game....

I am able to connect to general servers within this specific game.  just timing out the connection on this particular server.  The game company have indiciated it is an ISP issue.

Re: Cannot connect to my game....

Per the other response, the traceroute looks fine. You are reaching the destination and your latency to that host looks fine too (~40ms).

It might be worth downloading tracetcp and performing a traceroute with that, including the specific port you’re trying to connect to on the server - it might show you where you’re having problems..

OK.

What do you get if you open a command prompt and type telnet <ip address> <port number> ?

you may need to install telnet, but as that’s a standard windows tool which is added through the windows add/remove features, i assume that’s ok?

Re: Cannot connect to my game....

Do you have access to the Old Computer still? If so, does it connect to the Server, OK?

Traceroute is clean according to the IP address now without seeing the Port it is connecting on (Don't post that part obviously) I would say it could be that part of the problem. You can talk to the Server as evident by the other connections to it, but that specific port may be blocking you.

Rerun the Traceroute but add the Port at the end like this

tracert 192.168.1.20:1234

then you can see if there are any blocks with the Port and you won't need to download anything either (it's good to be strict with programmes and what not as it saves a lot of headaches when it goes wrong!)
