I have a virgin.net email account, since 1st. July 2020 I have been unable to receive emails. I can send using my virgin.net account. I have saved settings on various devices so I know my settings haven't changed. Also being able to send emails indicates my username & password are okay.
Unless your circumstances have changed since June 2016, there is not much the Forum Team can do to assist, except to complete the deletion of the mailbox. If you didn't set up a back-up option as advised by ravenstar68 - please do so now.
As you don't have VM broadband account and the email address was more than likely tide to a dial up account, then I am afraid that you are not entitled to use that email address and all the VM support staff can do is too delete your email address.
How are you trying to send / receive your email, have you tried webmail https://my.virginmedia.com/my-apps/email/mailbox, if webmail works then the problem lies with the software you are using to access your emails. Even if this is fixed you email address can be deleted at any time.
I am afraid there is no further Troubleshooting that can be done by the VM staff members as all they can do in relation to orphaned email address is too delete them.
