I do not want to use the Mailto link facility. However my in box-is clutterred up with messages for each email asking me whether I want to link it. How can I stop that?

It seems that you have the "Ask for mailto link registration" box ticked in your VM Webmail settings:
1) Go into Settings (the cog symbol)
2) Then "Email" and scroll down to "Behaviour"
3) Untick the box and the messages should stop,

The only option I am aware of concerning handling of mailto links in webmail is ⚙ > E-mail > Ask for mailto link registration (located under Behaviour)
Why you would be seeing message in your Inbox is unknown. Can you post a redacted screenshot of the issue?
