imap.virginmedia.com' on the default ports timed out

Over the past week, both incoming and outgoing email seems to have slowed down.   Most annoyingly, I keep getting a warning triangle with an exclamation showing the message  "imap.virginmedia.com' on the default ports timed out.'  It happens almost immediately after Mail is opened.  If I close Mail and reopen, it goes away for a couple of seconds and then reappears.  

I am using Mail on an iMac.  C,mon Virgin, Apple Mac is one of the biggest companies in the world so it surely can't be an incompatibility between Virgin email and Macs.  Solution please or at least sort out your servers?

I am having exactly the same issues. It started a couple of hours ago. I'm really annoyed. For such an expensive provider, this is completely unacceptable. Never had any trouble with free email providers.

I've been having exactly the same problem for a couple of weeks now. It's driving me mad. Nothing has changed at my end so it must be VM. When I contacted them last week they admitted there was a problem with email which they were working on. They must have changed something because it's been fine for years! I'm getting really fed up with it!

Sorry to hear of the email issues.

 

Is this affecting both webmail and email clients? Or both?

Hi John

It is just a problem on Mac Mail.  And, as others have said, it is a recent issue which appears to be due to some changes or fault with Virgin's email servers.  I have made no changes to my Mac Mail settings in many months so it is not an issue with the Mac or Mac Mail.

The Virgin website email workes ok.

Please advise when Virgin will sort out this server issue.

Can you delete the mail address from the mac and retry?
