e-mail access not working efficiently

franco
On our wavelength

For the last week I have had difficulty accessing my e-mails (I have 3 addresses on my account)

I have been "going round the houses" to read them. I first go to the log in screen, then I get a message which reads

Your mailbox is not available at the moment. Or you may not have an active mail account with us. If you have an existing Virgin Media mailbox please try changing your password in the first instance as this may unlock the account following a security precaution taken by our email team.

It then takes me to my account log in, and then to another screen which says log in to your e-mail, which takes me to yet another account screen with a box to access e-mail. I click on this and it takes me directly to my e-mails. (So I assume that the first log in page I accessed took my password)

I have put up with this for several days and today. as suggested,  changed all my passwords. Result - NOTHING HAS  CHANGED - I still have to go through several screens to get access. This is very annoying.  I can access e-mails my my smart phone - but there are things I need to do which require access via my PC. Any advice / solution would be welcome.

I am using the following address as access.  https://mail2.virginmedia.com/

Hey franco, thank you for reaching out, I am sorry to hear about this email problem

Is this with all 3 emails you have been having trouble with?

Please could you let me know how you are trying to login, do you login in through your phone, Outlook or online?

I will send you a PM, so we can look into this together.

Please look out for the purple envelope. Thanks

Tanks for the information.

Have set up Thunderbird on my lap top - works fine for all 3 accounts so I have direct access. I would prefer that Virgin sorted the problem though.

Hi, Matthew ML.
I have just sent you an answer to your PM with all the required details.

Well doing that by DM isn't very helpful to anyone else affected by this!

I am having similar issues. And they seem to be getting worse. And it looks suspiciously like something done by marketing to try and drive users to the main VM website rather than gong straight to the mail account. There used to be "mail" link at the top right of the page. That  got removed, so I had to go to the main web page and search for the mail button, somewhere well down the page.. Then even that page got covered by a pop-over of  another page advertising your video offer or something of the sort.

And it's all very well people suggesting I use Thunderbird ( I do). But that is of no use when VM diverts important emails to Spam so that they don't get to TB while forwarding the standard Phishing/Scam emails to my inbox. Which you do with terrifying regularity.

Hi tbernstein,

You are quite correct, it is not much  use putting the answer in a DM. However, in fairness Matthew ML did need to ask me some questions about how I accessed my mail.

The answer was straightforward when we got to it. I was trying to access my mail log in direct - but now of course you have to log into your account and then scroll down the page to find the e-mail tab. I did point out that this was a backward step. But Like you I suspect it is to make us read the adverts on the Virgin Media Home page!!

(or it was devised by programmers who do not actually use the system!)

All in the name of "improving customer facilities - not.

By default Thunderbird will try to setup an account to use IMAP and doing so will give you access to all mailbox folders (including the Spam folder); be aware IMAP allows updates to be reflected between server and clients, i.e. deleting a message in Thunderbird will also result in its deletion on the server.

I use POP for just that reason. I want the Web based emails to stay until I am ready to remove them, even if I delete the local copy.

@tbernstein  If you want to access VM webmail without going through the VM website bookmark this link in your favourite browser:

https://mail2.virginmedia.com/

If you are already logged in it will take you directly to the webmail page.  If not it will take you to the log in page first before linking to webmail.
