All I get is an error and email does not go. Can send emails via the Virginmedia website. Spent over an hour with Microsoft technician investigating the problem, to see if it was Outlook problem. Outlook app has had several updates but still the problem persists.

It would be helpful to see what, if any, error code is returned by the SMTP server in this situation. From a desktop or laptop device open a Command Shell in Window and enter the following where username:password is replaced with your email address and password, i.e. richard.branson@virginmedia.com:Y54kpX5g:
curl -v smtps://smtp.virginmedia.com -u username:password
Do not post the resulting output here but instead review it for possible reported causes and then post just the redacted part here or the VM error code.

Can you do what 用心棒 has advised and let us know how it goes?

In reply to the suggestion below I received info that says in essence Virginmedia. blocked the connection too many bad emails sent. The only other thing was a message that said unexpected server error 421
