I retreive email on several devices and therefore use recent mode, adding the "recent:" switch before my full email address in the username field of my email client which is Outlook
Following recent email changes this is no longer working and authentication fails using the recent switch
Is there any explanation for this?

recent : mode was a Google abomination that was used to solve a problem that shouldn't actually exist. As such it's not been used since VM moved to their own e-mail platform in 2015.
VM's system previously stripped recent: off the username prior to authenticating, but appears to have stopped doing so.
