Tiscali emails not being received

Get error message Socket error Connection error when trying to email to a @tiscali.co.uk address.  Last 24 hours, what's the problem, how to fix?

I'm assuming you are sending from a tiscali account to another tiscali address but using VM as the carrier

I think the settings for email clients have changed recently:

and TT didn't tell anyone.

Try these and see if it helps.

But if you are sending from a VM email address via VM please can we see the full error message?

Trying to send from virgin media ...@ntlworld.com address to tiscali.co.uk address.

 

nothing else in the error message apart from "this is the mail  system at host know-smtprelay-5-imp"

I know the kind of error messages that these systems sent. The message is more detailed that you have provided  and we need to see the whole text please or this is going nowhere as far as resolution is concerned. If you are getting those words at the start there is much more to come and it may indicate an issue with VM. Equally it may not.

The message is being refused by TalkTalk's mail servers. There isn't an issue with VM's system here. The message is coming to you from VM's servers because they have tried to deliver the message and TT's servers have refused to accept it. When that happens VM tells you.  IT is possible that for some reason TT's servers are refusing to accept mail from VM.

It might be worth asking the intended recipient if they are aware of any issues with the TT mail system and if this happens again get them to report it to TT's customer services.

Different error messages will mean different things and if you get different messages let us see them in full please.

I think this might need escalating to the email team.

Looking at the error - VM's outbound relay isn't able to connect to mx.tiscali.co.uk (The inbound mail exchanger for tiscali email addresses)

The server is doing what it's supposed to do in this event and retrying the connection.  It gives up after 37 minutes and bounces the mail back to you.

I've run a test to mx.tiscali.co.uk from my own mail server and it is up and running.  So this looks to be a problem from VM's relay.
