Re: Sending mail from phone

Most phones don't give a useful error message - they just report they got stuck, but don't feed back the VMxxx error code - which is essential to give you accurate diagnosis of what is causing the problem and how to solve it.

Can you access webmail in a browser (on your phone or any other device)?  Can you send and receive through webmail?  Webmail uses different servers so it is useful to know if that is working normally.

Is this problem replicated on other devices? Do you have access to any other device - if so what email client?  Try to get the exact error code by following advice in this thread:

Re: Sending mail from phone

I can send via webmail on a desktop & on my Kindle, just phone not liking it.

Might take some reading through the other thread to see if I can do this on my phone

Re: Sending mail from phone

Thank you - it is good to know that you can use webmail - at least you are not completely closed off until we find the exact problem.

Just open a browser on your phone (safari)  - the print will be small, but we want to know if webmail works on your phone, doesn't matter if you can read or write much!

Please answer another question that might help us - is the phone connecting using your home broadband/wifi, or using data connection?  switch only one on at a time and try sending - is there any change?  Which works and which doesn't - (this is regarding the mail app, not webmail)?

Also, you did not answer - do you have an email client on your desktop?  Please install Thunderbird (it is free), and get that logging error code.

Re: Sending mail from phone

Thanks for your help so far.

Web-mail from browser on phone worked fine.

I have Live Mail on home PC, also works fine.

Have used wi-fi, 4g makes no difference

Re: Sending mail from phone

Facts:

  • You can receive on your iPhone mail app, but not send.
  • You can receive and send using webmail in a web browser on the iPhone.
  • You can use webmail on your desktop and Kindle
  • You can use Live Mail on your desktop - for sending and receiving
  • iPhone mail app will not work whether it is wifi or 4g connection.

Please try deleting your email address from the iPhone mail app, and setting it up again, being sure to use the recommended settings: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-mail-email-settings

Apple products can sometimes get the settings stuck - if it doesn't work the first time, read this which often helps:

Come back if you are still not fixed - we can try other self-help ideas.

Re: Sending mail from phone

To be honest, deleting was something I had considered, anyway did that and following the exact settings in the link didn't work at all, 2nd time around Iphone set it's own settings and all works now.  Not sure what the implications if any of that are..

Re: Is there an issue with E-mail currently

There doesn't seem to be a general issue at present.  I just logged in without issue.

Presuming you have a current VM broadband account this may be a case of your account having been locked for security reasons.

If you change password via the forgotten password link can you regain access?
