I was contacted on 02045 212xxx by a man called Peter [Removed] to review my contract. He said there was a promotion on which would save me £9 pm. He sent an email to confirm and gave me a phone number. 0333 2420787 and said someone would contact me. Is this genuine or have I been scammed?

I googled this number and it shows up as a likely scam on 'who called me'.  https://who-called.co.uk/Number/03332420785. The reports on this website suggest it has been used for various scams.

First things first. You or a Moderator really needs to remove your contact number starting 0204. Whether it's truely your number, or someone genuine and none the wiser..NEVER post your own (or claimed own) phone number on any platform for people to see.

Secondly, regards the number you gave. A quick 30 second Google search threw up almost the exact same number..just ending in a '5' not a '7'

Reasonable to assume it's from the same people..and if so best avoided/blocked/ignored/reported as you see fit.

That was the number that called me. I removed my number from my message. Is it likely that the 0333 number would have put charges on my account when they phoned me back?

Scammers always spoof (fake) the number that appears in caller display so you cannot use the phone number to verify whether an unsolicited call is genuine or not. Scammers do that to disguise the fact they are calling from an overseas number or simply just to hide their tracks.

Genuine 0333 numbers are non-geographical landline numbers used by organisations.  If you call an 0333 number the cost will be the same as any regular 01XXX or 02XXX  geographic number, https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/advice-for-consumers/costs-and-billing/how-muc...

Finally, the idea that a scam call can result in extra changes appearing on your phone would seem to be an urban myth. The only way you can be charged  is if you call a number back.
