Is it possible to recover an old email account I need to access it to reset a password for a different account

Extremely unlikely unless it has only just been closed and is still receiving messages.

I don't need the old emails just need the email address activated again. I have tried to do it but it says currently in use. I can't see it in my account list either. Presume virgin closed it due to inactivity

VM have a policy, and I can see why and it does make sense, that once an email address has been used, even if the account has been closed down, that address can NEVER be reused or reallocated - it is permanently 'in use', and unavailable, even if it actually isn't.
