Possible problems sending email.

Hi there. 

We've seen a few posts over the last day where some people state that they are unable to send email. 

We'd like to gather some further information on this in order to investigate further. 

Should you be experiencing this issue, please reply back to this post with the following information. 

  • Email client you're using?
  • Exact error message and error number if available?
  • Outgoing server you're using?
  • The domain your email address is using (@ntlworld,@blueyonder,@virginmedia)?

Please do not post your full email address.

I am having problems sending email on my ntlworld.com email account via my iPad. I have not changed any settings. My outgoing server is SMTP.virginmedia.com. In fact I have just received a test email I sent 45 minutes ago so sending is just very slow?

I'm currently unable to send emails - using Mac email client with MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3 and same problem trying to send from phone using Apple iOS 11.2.6. Using smtp.blueyonder.co.uk server for all devices
Just get messages saying unable to connect to this server.
domain is @blueyonder

Unable to send mail from iPad or iPhone from ntlworld.com account, problem started this morning, incoming mail doesn’t seem to be affected.

  • Client: Thunderbird
  • Exact Message: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.virginmedia.com was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.
  • Outgoing server: smtp.virginmedia.com (default)
  • email domain: @ntlworld

Email client: MS Outlook 2016

Error Message: "Sending' reported error (0x80042109): Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)."

Outgoing server: smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

Domain name used: @blueyonder.co.uk

Task 'XXXXX - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted.

Could you please let me know what outgoing mail server you are currently using.

Cannot send email. Not changed any settings since it worked yesterday.

Using Mac mail on an iMac. Did manage to use webmail via My virgin media on Safari.  My iPad also worked but took a while to go.

Connection status for both smtp.ntlworld.com and smtp.virginmedia.com says "cannot connect to this server. Check your network....."

have both @ntlworld.com and @virginmedia neither work

Very frustrating
