Password change has not worked on outlook or Gmail

I recently changed my password for my email account on the 2 x virgin media accounts that I have emails for. No problems there... However I had expected my Google mail to stop working for this email addresses because I had just changed the password. However they continued to work which surprised me. I then went to change the password my self for outgoing and incoming that you have to do. It failed to recognise my new password. I changed it back to my old password and it works. If I use the web version it works with the new password however it needs my old password for the Google and outlook phone app mail. How is this possible???? Please help. I changed it 24hoirs ago and no one knows what is happening. I am waiting for 5 day response!!! Worried about security issue with this. Thanks

@Stevo365 VM have recently changed the log in requirements for accessing VM Mail via third party apps.

If you change the password for the account in My Virgin Media > Account settings > Account details you will not be able to use the new password to access the account via an email client. Email client access now requires an app specific password which can be generated in the MyVM > Account Settings > Account details > Mailbox App password management
