Old email hacked

Hi - I have a VirginMedia.com email address that was setup as a secondary/sub-account. The primary account is no longer an active Virgin customer and has been inactive for some time, but the email address has continued to work. 

The email account has recently been compromised, but I am unable to sign in or reset the password via My Virgin Media. 

I was also unable to get any help via the customer services phone line - who said I’d need to talk to TalkTalk (which based on other posts on the forum - I don’t think is accurate).

Please could you help with resetting the password to this email address? Or deleting the account entirely?
