New error message when I read messages via webmail

scarletp
Superfast

Normally I use Windows Live Mail for my ntl emailing but have also started using webmail more often.

This morning when using webmail I selected the account and then entered my latest password for that account.  My messages appeared correctly and up to date but then the following pop up message appeared but strangely it only remained on screen for about 30 seconds?  I did a screen shot.

! Error

The provided login data to access e-mail server imap.ntlworld.com seems to be wrong.  Please correct them.

Is this a temporary glitch? Surely, if my password was wrong I would not be allowed in at all?

I only altered and reset my password yesterday and all my mails seem to be arriving and being sent as usual within WLM, my android phone and webmail.

Can I ignore the message for now please? If I need to act please advise how.

Thank you

If you are seeing that error message from a VM Webmail it suggests that the Webmail account you are accessing is set up to use the Unified Mail option so you managing emails from more than one VM email account within Webmail.  In other words, your Webmail is account as acting as an email client in the same way that Windows Live Mail does.

You say that you have recently reset your password for an email account. If that VM account is working ok in Live Mail it would seem that you must have also updated the password within Windows Live Mail or WLM would be giving you a similar message to the one you are seeing in Webmail

To solve your Webmail problem you need to update the password in Webmail as well.

  1. Sign into the webmail account that is giving you that error.
  2. Click on the cog symbol coenoby_0-1668613866196.jpeg
  3. Then click on Accounts in the right hand menu
  4. You should see the email account whose password you have recently reset listed
  5. Click on Edit to the right of the  address whose password you recently updated
  6. Scroll down the new pop up window until you see heading Incoming Server
  7. Under that heading you'll see a box labelled Password  - enter your new password into that box.
  8. Click on Save and all should be ok again.

I hope that helps

Thank you coenoby,  all is restored and the pop up message has stopped.

I did as you suggested (although the appearance within my webmail was not exactly the same as you described) but hey! I managed to get there in the end.

You are brilliant!
