Re: Long delays on some mail

Once again - oh please, we cannot leave this situation as it is. Resolution is taking way too long and I bet I could tell you now exactly what is happening. And I can win this bet hands down because I have seen it time and time again. So it's no mystery

@9fingers is using 123reg to forward mail from his domain to VM's mail system. xxx.kundenserver.de is one of their mail servers. VM's mail system constantly and repeatedly greylists mail from this forwarder because it thinks it is spam. The last time I looked at this the issue arises because 123reg does not rewrite the header of the mail it forwards so that mail fails the SPF check and looks like spam.

We constantly have to remind people who use 123reg that their failure to use SPF header rewriting when they forward mail will result in this situation from time to time.  But we also know that the people who run VM's mail system in Holland (Ziggo Internet) have, in the past,  whitelisted 123reg to stop this happening. It is also a penalty that people must pay if they chose to use a mail forwarder that does not do SPF header rewriting. So all three parties to these transactions carry some responsibility.

Re: Long delays on some mail

I do indeed forward some of my mail via my domain hosted by 123reg however this latest spate of delayed mail is addressed direct to my NTLworld address.

123 forwarded mail seems to be working fine currently without measureable delay.

Re: Long delays on some mail

In which |I will say no more, but the example you post (11/13) from MXToolbox above shows a forwarded mail from a 123 reg server - doesn't it?

Re: Long delays on some mail

You may be correct but usually mail forwarded via 123reg shows a to: address of abc at mydomainname whereas recent delayed mail is showing the address of my ntl mailbox.

The delay mail source is from the admin of a forum hosted by 1&1 so maybe they also use kundenserver.de for mail.

I am indeed grateful for your comments in this thread as your VIP status adds weight to the cause - thanks

Re: Long delays on some mail

You are right and I am wrong. The server is a 1&1 server not a 123 reg server. I made a mistake. I suspect that there is greylisting going on nevertheless. VM thinks the stuff is spam. We'll leave it for the Forum TEam to chase.

Re: Long delays on some mail

Seconded!

I've reason to believe the situation is getting worse in that some mail is now so delayed as to be classed as not getting through although I can not get  headers to analyse for proof of non arrival. As a Moderator on a woodworking forum I am only getting a fraction of the admin mail that I would normally get and notifications of some threads there are just never arriving. Some of our members are also not getting prompts that their posts are being replied to and yet our server is sending them.

Mail from this source is now either coming through with at most a few minutes delay or never arriving.

Hi Bob,

I am really sorry for the delay - I've just checked the ticket for you and the issue is still under investigation.

I'll keep you as updated as much as I can. I'm sorry again for the inconvenience caused.

Re: Long delays on some mail

Hi Bob,

Can you please confirm whether emails from other senders are delayed too?

We're only able to see one traceroute for one sender, so we'd need the same traces from the other senders.

Many thanks,

Beth
