I can no longer access a secondary blueyonder e mail account having received a message saying it was blocked. I followed what I thought to be the instructions to change my account login to a non VM address and it overwrote the blueyonder e mail with the non vm e mail when the primary account looked at the e mails held on the main account. I am now going around in a perpetual loop trying to regain my blueyonder account and I'm totally at my wits end. Help !

@Snoops-two Yes, that is precisely it.
To access the account via VM webmail or My Virgin Media you will need to log in with the third party username and the account password.
To access the blueyonder account via an email client such as Thunderbird or Outlook then the username remains the full blueyonder email address. However you may need to create an app generated password to use with the email address when using an email client.
VM have recently changed the log in requirements for accessing VM Mail via third party apps.
If you change the password for the account in My Virgin Media > Account settings > Account details you will not be able to use the new password to access the account via an email client. Email client access now requires an app specific password which can be generated in the MyVM > Account Settings > Account details > Mailbox App password management

Changing the username to a non Virgin media email does not overwrite or change the blueyonder email address. Although it shows as third party email address in the list of secondary accounts the underlying mailbox is still the blueyonder one. In VM webmail logging in with the third party email address should bring up the blueyonder account.

Hi Graham, thanks for the reply. So to understand this are you saying I have merely changed the account title to the non VM e mail address but the blueyonder mail account is still sat behind it ?

Your previous answer was very helpful and once I understood what had happened I was able to follow the process you described in your latest reply and everything is now working again. Thanks for your help :-). To anyone reading this with the same problem it is imperative that you use the generated password app or the whole thing falls down and if you're like me you lose the best part of a day in your life trying to sort it out !
