Inbox only showing emails from 9 November

My blueyonder emails are only going back to 9 Nov 23. The sent items seems to be inconsistent within the various folders.

I can still send and receive emails.

Are there any known issues? If not, what details do you require to investigate this further.

Thanks

LJ

Do you use the Virgin Media webmail service to manage your VM emails or do you use a third party email app such as Outlook or a mail app on your phone?

If the emails are missing from a third party email app are they also missing from your VM webmail account?

People due occasionally report that emails have gone missing from their VM account. In most cases there is no obvious reason identified but two common causes are:

  • Emails unknowingly or mistakenly being deleted from the email app. This causes the emails to be deleted from the VM webmail service. That's because the IMAP process these email apps uses synchronises the email folders in the email app and the VM webmail account. So, deleting an email on the app deletes it from the VM server as well.
  • Emails being deleted by a hacker to hide their illegal use of the email account. Have you seen any sign of possible hacker activity with the account? If you don't use a third party email app it would be worth checking your webmail account to make sure the hacker has not set up and rules to delete certain emails.

Many thanks for your response Coenoby

I normally just use my iPhone and Apple's mail client but I am experiencing this issue on VMs webmail also.

If I had inadvertently deleted hundreds of emails I would have expected them to be in my deleted folder.

Do you know whether VM can recover emails from a backup?

Thanks again.

Sadly It seems that VM do not store backup copies of emails. The onus is on the VM customer to set up their own email backup arrangements.

"If I had inadvertently deleted hundreds of emails I would have expected them to be in my deleted folder."

Don't forget that VM usually removes emails from the Webmail Trash (Deleted) folder after a week. The Imap process in your Mail app will then ensure that they will also disappear from the Deleted/Trash folder in the app.
