Hacked emails

Hi I believe my email account has been hacked. I’ve received an email saying they have control of my account and to sort it out I have to pay them $500 it’s the porn scam. They have now managed to change my password and then my email address on my amazon account. Could you please advise me on how to deal with this.

The email address is [Removed] Regards

Jill

Please do not send reply to my blue yonder email but to [Removed]

If you see this message before the time limit of 30min is up, you need to edit your original message to remove the email addresses unless you want both to be hacked!

OK it’s been spotted and edited for you. Just as I was about to flag it too.

Re: Hacked emails

Are you able to post your email headers on here?

The reason I ask is that I myself got some of these claiming to be from my personal email (I have my own server), however when I checked it was clear that they’d spoofed my email address.

Looking at the headers should be able to help us give you a clearer idea of whether you have been hacked.

Re: Hacked emails

Jill

When you say the hackers have changed your password, do you mean the password for your email account or your Amazon password, it's not 100% clear from your post? If the later then the first thing you need to do is to see if you can log into the VM website and change it yourself just in case.

Otherwise, you'll need to hang on for one of the forum team to get to this thread, they should offer to get in touch with you to go through security and they should be able to change the password for you and at least you can regain control of that.

You need to think about any other sites you use which the hackers may attempt to compromise, you need to log into them first and change the associated email address IF indeed you have lost control of your VM mail account. Any sites which use two factor authentication (2FA) should be OK though.

Now all of this is based on the assumption that the hackers really have got control of your email and are not just pretending to as @ravenstar is alluding to above.

Re: Hacked emails

Hi

my amazon account password was changed then the email was changed. I’ve phoned amazon and a block has been put on my account. I have also been receiving emails saying I’ve requested other site passwords to be changed.
