One of my main contacts that I have been regularly communicating with for many years appears to have been greylisted recently and now any emails that he sends to me are bounced back undelivered. Can I resolve this?
First check your spam settings in VM webmail. If set to reject spam, then change it to move messages to spam folder. See if the emails arrive into the spam folder, then mark them as not spam to train the filter.
If that is not the problem, ask the sender to give you a copy of the bounceback message which will have clues to point us in the right direction. You can post it here but block out the first part of any email address.
Here are two threads recently that might give you some ideas of what to look for:
Thanks, yes I checked my spam settings and it is OK. Also checked my blacklist just in case I had done something daft but the sender is not on that.
The sender gave me the bounceback messages below. My understanding is that it first went wrong on 19th May but the emails got through on the fourth attempt. Now he is getting an immediate not delivered message.
Has the sender followed the advice in the link for sending emails to VM recipients? VM uses certain policies to reduce spam, so senders have to comply with that. If your sender needs help, they can come here and ask for assistance, but will possibly/eventually need to work with their email provider/host to fix it if they don't know how to update their settings.
I've forwarded the links so we'll see if he can find anything in there to help. But why would this just have started happening recently - have Virgin Media changed something in an attempt to catch more spam?
