For six months I have struggled with the same problem. Sometimes when I send an email via Outlook or my iPad/iPhone Outlook app, it gets returned with the following message:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently:
*xx I removed the email address for privacy
Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** xx ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .
I am not the only person with this problem. I have seen it all over the internet. I can't always use Virgin Webmail on my phone - I have vision problems and cannot read it on my smart devices. As a result, I need to use Outlook. It isn't every email. But at least once a week and sometimes once a day. It's really frustrating! Thank you for reading.

I've just gone to webmail and I get an Error: failed to load messages retry message so THAT isn't even working!

Can you post the redacted server response code?

Indeed the actual reply which you substituted with ** xx ??:?? is the response code which says ‘why’ the receiving server rejected the message, without knowing that, then we’re all in the dark and not really able to help or advise.

Hi @Starmonkey22, thanks for your post although I'm sorry to hear of your concerns raised regarding your email.
Can you please kindly clarify a few things which will help us further please:
- Is the problem affecting you when you're on your home WiFi, or is this happening when you're on other WiFi away from home and on your mobile data too?
If you could also reply with the info requested by the other users in this thread too, that would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

It happens everywhere, not just on my home WiFi. On laptop, PC, phone and tablet.

If the server status has not been redacted then its return value of ??:?? is of no use, i.e. the cause for why the message was not delivered will remain an unknown.

I uploaded a screen capture of the email. It has as much information that I received. All I did was redact the beginning of my email address. I did not put ?? Into the message - that’s how it came from virgin.

This is the screen capture of my original email message. Only email address is redacted.
