Emails not showing in outlook account

Mum has a Virgin Media email account which she successfully accessed through Windows Live on her old laptop. We recently upgraded her laptop (it did need replacing) with Windows 11. I was able to add her Virgin Media email account to her Outlook profile but it only shows a few weeks worth of emails - on her laptop, on her IPhone and on her online Virgin Media mail account and I cannot work out why. Everything is still showing through Windows Live though. But the odd thing is why her online (web) account is showing a very limited number of emails. I cannot find any settings to change this.

Can anyone offer any help here?

Stephen

It would be worth checking the sort order in her Virgin Media Webmail account Inbox. Sign into Webmail,   Open the Inbox folder, select Sort and check that  "Date" and "Descending" are only options selected.

The fact that "everything is still showing in Windows Live Mail"  could be because WLM may well be using the older POP3 protocol to download emails. POP3 simply downloads emails from the Inbox on the VM server (i.e. VM Webmail) and stores them within Windows Live Mail. However if an email is deleted from the server the email will still be held in WLM.

More modern email clients and apps such as on the iPhone and Outlook use the IMAP protocol . That keeps all emails and email folders synchronised across all IMAP devices. So if an email is deleted from an email app or from the server it will be deleted  from all IMAP devices.

You need to check all folders in the Webmail account to see if the emails have been moved there for some reason.

If the emails are not showing in any folder in the Webmail account the most likely cause is that they have inadvertently been deleted from the iPhone email app and the app's IMAP protocol has then deleted them from the Webmail account.

Sadly if they are no longer anywhere in the VM Webmail account they are not recoverable, VM do not keep backups.

Sorry I cannot be more positive,

Coenoby
