Re: Emails don’t leave the outbox

Hello

"Open a terminal and enter the following command after replacing jane.doe@virginmedia.com with your own email address:

curl -v -url "smtps://smtp.virginmedia.com" --user jane.doe@virginmedia.com

and when prompted enter your password.

If you successful authenticated yourself to the SMTP server you will see something similar to:

< 235 2.7.0 ... authentication succeeded
> HELP
< 214-2.0.0 This is cmsmtp ESMTP service help

< 214 2.0.0 end of HELP info
214 2.0.0 end of HELP info
* Connection #0 to host smtp.virginmedia.com left intact

however if not you will see:

< 535 5.7.8 Authentication Credentials Invalid (VM300)
* Closing connection 0
curl: (67) Login denied
What VM code do you see; in the example above it is VM300? Please do not be tempted to post more than the requested curl output as you will likely reveal your email address and password."

Can yoou report the error back if you get VM305 then you have a problem that something on your home network is sending spam and will need to follow

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Security-matters/Searching-for-Spambots-on-your-network/td-p/40...

You can check your listing yourself but there is no point requesting removal until you have found and deleted the spambot. https://www.spamhaus.org/query and type in your external IP you can gets this my typing "whats my ip" into google.

If you are running Hola VPN Free, then note But Hola Free VPN is anything but a VPN.

Regards Mike

Re: Emails don’t leave the outbox

@HB52

Please read @DJ_Shadow1966 post above.

If you are having trouble sending mail, then the curl command he posted does give useful information.  However it might be better to use the following command which will ONLY give us the success or fail result.

the command is

curl -v smtps://smtp.virginmedia.com -u email@address:password 2>&1 | findstr "235 VM"

Change the email address and password to your account details.

Don't post the command line itself but post the response line (in blue below).

curl -v smtps://smtp.virginmedia.com -u email@address:password 2>&1 | findstr "235 VM"
< 535 5.7.8 Authentication Credentials Invalid (VM300)

The above command works for Windows machines, there is a slightly different version for Linux/Unix/Apple Mac devices.
