Emails disappeared

Some time over the weekend, all my emails disappeared from my @virginmedia.com account. Everything including in subfolders has gone. Emails since Monday are in there but everything else has gone.

Anyone got any idea what could have happened please?

Just to add - emails have been going in and out since Monday afternoon, I can log in no problem, no-one I know has any emails supposedly from me so nobody else seems to be using my account. And I've checked archived and deleted etc. and all sub folders and everything before Monday afternoon is gone. 

Thankfully I've got them all stored on my home PC so no tragedy so far but it is a bit worrying and pain now they're all missing from my linked iphone mail system
