Emails bounced back after outlook changes sender address

af4d
Tuning in

Emails sent from my Virgin Media email account using Outlook on my Asus Zenfone 8 have recently started bouncing back from some recipients. When I open the emails in my sent folder using Outlook on my Windows laptop, my sender address is displayed as "outlook_[long list of letters and numbers]@outlook.com" instead of my ntlworld.com email address

Is there reason and an easy fix for this?

Sadly, Microsoft naming convention confuses matters.   Depending on the context "Outlook" can mean:

  • Outlook.com - MS's web based service
  • what I think they now call "Outlook for Android" or "Outlook for iOS" -  their mobile email apps
  • or "Outlook 365"  (or its predecessors) in Windows Office.

However, this page from the Microsoft support pages may help to give you some clues as to what's going on with your "Outlook" setup. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-com-email-account-appears-as-outlook-long-series-...

I do know that last year MS removed the facility to add non Outlook.com email accounts to Outlook.com but kept that facility in their android and iOS apps.

You might also try the MS Community Support forum for specific helps with "Outllook" issues https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us
