Email mailbox not found is not an issue we have seen posted recently. There are a lot of mailboxes that have been locked due to a security issue, but they return a mailbox not available please try later message.
You father in law needs to confirm that he is a current VM broadband customer and that the email address concerned is linked to the account. Check it shows under My Profile or Manage Accounts when signed into My Virgin Media with the primary account details.
