Email - keep after re-signing

I cancelled my account on Aug 19th when we moved house. We’ve been renting since then but have now bought and I’ve signed up as a new customer with delivery of gear expected Nov 18th.

Will my old email address (ntlworld) just continue working now, or do I need to do something to make sure it does continue to work? I also signed up to the new account with this email address.

You will need to arrange a Move and transfer from the old to the new account, providing both accounts are in the same name.

The VM Forum Team should be able to help you with this when they reach this thread in a day or so.

Virgin Media no longer provide an email service to new customers.
See here: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-account

Please note, Virgin Media no longer offers the ability for customers to create new Virgin Media email addresses. Customers with an existing Virgin Media email address will not be affected; their mail account will remain as is.

As you cancelled a previous account and have signed up as a new customer, Virgin Media will not provide an email address with your "new" account in line with their statement above. Without an active email address allocated to your new account I can't see how you will be able to use any VM provided email service, new or transferred via a "move and transfer" as you will not be provided with one.

I also expect that your old ntlworld email account will become inaccessible due to the above (and that it should have been deleted 90 days after you closed your old account).

There are always "exceptions to the rule" and you may be lucky but prepare for the worst.

Set up an ISP independent email account and migrate to that. You should also change the email address you signed up your new VM account with from your old ntlworld one to your new ISP independent one.
