Hi, been struggling with mailbox unavailable and today was messaged that the email address was terminated. I haven’t terminated anything, have been with VM for many years so haven’t a clue what’s going on.

I can see that you have already been in contact with the Forum Team so I will escalate this to them.

However one useful thing that you could check would be to sign in to your My Virgin Media account (where you view your VM bills and package details), click on the "Update settings" box and then "Account details".

Then scroll down that page on click on "Manage other Virgin Media accounts" and see if this problem email address is listed there.

If it is not listed it could be because that email address was part of an earlier VM broadbnad contract and was never moved over to your current contract.

If it is listed, then that strongly suggests it has not in fact been deleted.

Keep an eye out for a response to this post from of the Forum Team.

Hi, did as you suggested, all it shows is : I have additional accounts - but doesn’t show any? Just give option to create a new one for someone else?

should I edit/change email address and password in account details, to my own mailbox and use that to log into MyVirginMedia , that way I should get any emails from virgin?

the response from Chris on forum, is that my virgin email mailbox has been terminated.

need a workaround.

I am very disappointed you did not get any more detail from VM as to the reason the account has been terminated.

"I have additional accounts - but doesn’t show any?"

That confirms there are no email accounts linked to your My Virgin Media Account.

"just give option to create a new one for someone else?"

Look again. If you click on the "Create new account" option it says "Set up an new My Virgin Media account" not "email account". VM no longer issues VM email addresses to new customers or allows existing customers to create new secondary VM email accounts.

"should I edit/change email address and password in account details, to my own mailbox and use that to log into MyVirginMedia , that way I should get any emails from virgin?

Editing one email address to another is impossible.

Each email address has its own separate mailbox. You cannot simply convert one email address into another one. That applies to any email account not just Virgin Media email accounts.

If the email account no longer exists then I'm afraid the optiom is to use a different email address - preferably not a VM email address I would suggest.

One thing you could try would be to send a test email to the "terminated" email address and see if you get an error message back.

If you receive a message.reporting that the email cannot be delivered because the email address cannot be found it means that email account has been deleted along with the emails in it. That means there is nothing more you can do regarding that email account,

If you don't get an error back, then it suggests that although VM are saying the account has been "terminated" the mailbox does still exist on VM 's system. That might give you some ammunition to go back to VM and ask for the account to be restored at least for a short while.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Hi, thanks for all the info.

mail returned as error, so you would think that would alert them that something was wrong?

I did create another account, got it set up but it’s basically the same as the one I sign in with except it doesn’t see bill etc. it’s like a back up?

I have changed my contact details with email address that’s not virgin, so will use that to log on with and hope that any emails virgin need to send come to that one.
it’s caused a lot of stress, so I think that I will leave it for now as I don’t think there is anything else I can do.

thansk again for you help, weefifer

As I said in my last post, VM no longer allows customers to set up new secondary email accounts.

All they allow you to do is to set up a secondary My Virgin Media account with a non VM email account address. That is what you done,

It does not act as a back up to the My Virgin Media account that you use to access your VM bills. Personally I would not bother setting one up but I am sure VM have their reasons for offering that option.

When you say "I have changed my contact details with email address that’s not virgin" then as long as you did that in the MY Virgin Media Account that you use to view your bills, then VM will use that email address to send you emails.

Ok, that explains it, that way virgin can still email me, I will delete the other account I just created and just leave the main one.

thank you
