Email address hacked

I have a virginmedia.com email address which has been hacked & being used. 
They have changed my password so I’m stuck can’t access my emails and can’t change password.

I am not a Virgin customer for tv broadband or phone so they can not help me

my only option I believe is to change my email address 

As I can’t retrieve any emails this is going to be hard

how can I shut this email down as they are using it and I am not sure what for as can’t keep an eye on now
