Re: Email Not Working

As this seems unfixable... what do people use nowadays for email. (Not Google or Yahoo). Is Mailbird any good or does anyone have other suggestions? Nothing complicated as I'm not knowledgeable about setting up email.
Looked at the installed one outlook-Mail but it says it's an old version and won't update for me. Seriously behind in the times. 😞

That error shows you are using out dated settings.  Virgin Media have been advising that all their email customers should be using the virginmedia.com email servers for many years now. Don't worry, your email address will remain the same.

Those old settings may not be causing the error but it is definitely not helping. 😉

The current settings are:

  • Incoming mail server: pop3.virginmedia.com
  • Port: 995
  • This server requires an encrypted connection SSL
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.virginmedia.com
  • User Name: Your full email address e.g. Richard.Branson@blueyonder.co.uk
  • Port: 465
  • This server requires an encrypted connection  SSL

As far as an alternative email client, a lot of people use Thunderbird but it all comes down to what suits you. Since most are free you can always try one, see how you get on with it and then move to another if you don't.

Coenoby.

Re: Email Not Working

Fun and games... lol. Did as you said and then tried to open email in Windows mail. Could only open and find the accounts when I reverted to blueyonder.

Looking for another email client now. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

So are you saying that you have got Mail working again now?

If not, then I'd suggest you try signing into your email account directly using the VM Webmail service from here. https://mail.virginmedia.com   just to check you do not have an underlying problem with your email account itself.

By the way, I know those virginmedia settings work because I use them myself, albeit with Microsoft Outlook rather than Windows Mail. 😉

Re: Email Not Working

Hi shywitch.

Thanks for your post

Just want to double check, are you able to send and receive E-Mails via our web mail portal?

I'd like to ensure that there's nothing wrong with the E-Mail address that may also be causing this issue.

Kindest regards,

David_Bn
