Double checking a Virgin Media communication

My virgin mailboxes have been blocked for the last couple of days and I think that I have finally managed to input a new password.  I had received an email apparently saying that they had been locked 'due to suspicious activity being detected'.  How do I know what this suspicious activity was and how do I check that the Virgin Media communications are genuine?  

I have had problems over the last couple of weeks with stuff not loading, 'sticky' scrolling up and down pages, not being able to access email etc. in fact slow everything.  All this seems to have coincided with new design layouts on virginmedia pages etc. 

I am not at all computer literate and a lot of stuff on the site seems to go round and round rather than getting simply to the point.  I might just go back to using carrier pigeons.
