Disappearing mails when moving mails from spam to inbox

Some wanted emails ended up in spam. I try to recover these by moving to inbox. When I do they disappear completely from all boxes.

Is there a solution or alternative way of recovering them?

regards

Kim

They should appear in the Inbox the next time you refresh the page.  You can force this by pressing F5 or clicking on the 'refresh' button to the left of the settings icon in the menu bar.

Re: Disappearing mails when moving mails from spam to inbox

Hi Graham
Thanks for a fast response. I had already tried refreshing the page, it doesn't help.
Also I can't find any way to contact Virgin about email issues specifically, I think this could be a bug. I can get help on TV, Broadband etc but not email, the trail goes in circles!

Re: Disappearing mails when moving mails from spam to inbox

Apart from webmail, do you use other email clients?

Do the From and Subject text appear crossed out, for example as highlighted below:

What happens if instead of a Move you perform a Copy, then select (located next to Spam folder) and Clean up? Does the email just copied still appear in the Spam folder?

Re: Disappearing mails when moving mails from spam to inbox

Hi

I have no other email
Yes some of the email in spam has items crossed out, as normal for spam
I tried the copy option, the mail does not appear in the inbox, and the original remains in spam.
I don't get a 'clean up' option

Re: Disappearing mails when moving mails from spam to inbox

Hi
OK yes I see that now, but how will that help me put the 'non spam' email back in my inbox without disappearing again, as the copy operation did not work?

Many thanks for your input and patience

Kim

Re: Disappearing mails when moving mails from spam to inbox

If after selecting Clean up the emails you wanted to Move are no longer listed then they were either already deleted or marked for deletion,

FYI as a temporary workaround to avoid losing emails try:

  1. select an email from your Spam folder
  2. select and then Save as file
  3. select Inbox folder
  4. open your device's file explorer / manager
  5. locate the saved file from step 2, then drag it to webmail and drop it where the message Drop EML file here to import appears.

Re: Disappearing mails when moving mails from spam to inbox

You have not said what happens when you select the Clean up option before performing a Move.

Also can you open a Command Shell or Terminal and enter the following command where username:password is replaced with your email address and password, i.e. richard.branson@virginmedia.com:Y54kpX5g:

curl "imaps://imap.virginmedia.com/Spam" -u username:password -X 'FETCH 1:* FLAGS'

Post the resulting output here taking care not to include the above command, for example:

* 1 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
* 2 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
