Deleting my unused folders

The recent loss of historic emails prompted me into doing some housekeeping of my email account.  I now have a number of email folders I previously created that are empty and longer needed.  I want to delete these folders but when I try I get the message "Could not delete folder. This can be due to insufficient permissions in your trash folder or this might be a special folder that cannot be deleted".  I can't find out how to change permissions for trash folder and my folders are not a special folders as far as I am aware.  This is using the Virgin Webmail and an email app on my phone.

Sincere apologies for any issues faced Namsuas,

Welcome back to the community.

When you do select "Clean up" are you still facing the same error message?

Regards,

Kain

Ahh okay,

Many apologies for this, are you able to remove single emails at all?

Thanks,

Kain

Yes, I can delete emails from any folder, I just can't delete the empty folders.  This was proven when doing the housekeeping in my email account.

The only other thing I could try and put 2+2 together is - is the email in question a secondary email address?

Cheers,

Ryan.

Hi, this is my primary account AIUI. My wife's email account is secondary but she doesn't use folders.

I'm calling it a day on this now so thanks all for your assistance.

@Namsuas,

In webmail try the following workaround to deleted these folders:

  • select a folder that cannot be deleted
  • select ☰ > Add new folder and then Save; default folder name is fine for purpose of workaround
    2023-07-15-a.jpeg
  • select ☰ > Delete, to delete folder than previously could not be deleted, and Delete to confirm
    2023-07-15-b.jpeg
  • select Trash, then ☰ > Empty trash and Empty folder to confirm
    2023-07-15-c.jpeg

Thank you. The workaround has worked and all unused folders are now deleted. I appreciate your resolution 👍
